I decided on the Kari Traa brand after a lot of looking into it and smart wool. First, this brand is so much cuter than plain black or grey. I know no one will really see it most of the time, but I'd be comfortable stripping down in lodges and walking around in my thermals with these, which is huge for relaxing, cooling down, and mid-day meals. Now for the material. This (after researching since it doesn't say on Amazon) is 200 g merino wool. Base layers range from 190-250 generally. Smartwool uses 250, and is noticeably warmer. I wore this around my house with my thermostat set to 65, and was a bit chilled. I'm often colder than everyone around me, though. I'm sure this would be fine for a normal person. The wool is a bit scratcher than other brands I've tried, but is still well within what I'd call comfortable. Overall, I think it's a great, cheaper alternative to smartwool!Amazon reminded me to come back and update this a year later. I've worn these for skiing all over the country, and been more comfortable than ever before. I have a condition that makes me VERY sensitive to cold, and I easily get frostbite without noticing it until it's too late, so it's huge for me to be warm without thinking about it. I've used these in CO, CA, AZ, NY and VT, and been able to ski all day in various humidities and cold levels. As for wear, they're showing almost no signs of all the use. I am very cafeful, I wash on delicate, never dryer, always hang dry. I always make sure to hang them after a day of skiing. But with that care, they're holding up perfectly to a (season, really) of use. I'd 100% recommend these.I bought this to use as a base layer for cool-weather backpacking trips. I had tried on some other Kari Traa bottoms at a store, but wanted some to match the top I had gotten. I love the feel and warmth of these. They were very soft and not scratchy. However, the seam around the calf was very tight on me. I tried them on and quickly realized I would never be able to wear them for long periods of time, much less for potentially multiple days! For whatever it’s worth, I have thick (athletic?) calves, but I know that with more hiking they will only get thicker and these would only get more uncomfortable. Unfortunately, they were returned. I really wish they had worked for me, and they would have without the seam across the calves. I went with the Kari Traa Rose pant - they do not have the same seam lines!I bought a different color pattern Kari Tara base layer for my wife last year and she really loves them. So I went with a different, “less busy” pattern this year. She loves this style even more. Great style and great fit. Just be careful as they are on the thin side (but still very warm) and can be prone to snags/pulls. We recently discovered that her first pair has a very small hole in the hip, but I chalk it up to normal wear and tear from skiing. For your sizing reference, I'm 5'8", I weigh 195 lb, and I wear a US 12 in pants. I'm curvy.I ordered these in a large, as recommended. They fit *slightly* loose at the waist and are the perfect length. The only issue is that the the seam where the patterned fabric meets the solid fabric is bonkers tight and isn't stretchy at all. I can't pull up the pants as high as I want to without cutting off the circulation in my calves. I'm not sure if anybody else has had this problem, I need to read more reviews but I read several before buying and didn't see this complaint. Maybe I just got a wonky pair. Either way I had to keep them because I needed them for an outdoor event. Would buy again only if that problem was corrected. These merino wool long johns are so worth the price. I got the top larger, x-lg, and the pants really fit true to size.Love the design and wear it as a top w/a vest! Colors are just beautiful!I loved everything about this produce. We went skiing in Austria for 2wks and these were my go to for style and warmth!! The patten is great, not too busy and the blue color isn’t see-through. Expensive but it will be the one you reach for over and over! These were extremely warm and I didn’t need anything else under my ski pants while skiing in Utah.Super cute and a great price! Fit was about right. I have bigger calves so the decorative seams dig in just a little bit at first but stretch out enough after a few minutes to not bother. Nice and warm base layer without bulk.Excellent present to my wife. As she said and in my opinion looks, all in all is perfect. Many thanks!!!Happy and healthy New Year.Sincerely,EdgarsDelivery was quick and productive arrived as advertised. One negative comment is the waist band is not as comfortable as one would expect for an expensive pair of thermal pants as this. And the style could be improved by removing the seam from front to back since it really isn't attractive. Otherwise the productive is satisfactory. The rating reflects this review.Thought I was getting the whole outfit as that is what the picture shows… too much money for a pair of lounging pants but I kept them because I am too lazy to go to the post office to return them. Two years ago, I ordered two pairs of these base layers. I have lived in them. They are still in excellent condition, but decided I wanted a third pair. They are warm, comfortable, lightweight, and cute; they make staying warm in winter a pleasure. Wish Kari Traa would make my whole wardrobe!Ich habe mir die Hose nachgekauft, da das erste Modell nach ca. 2 Jahren an den Knien kaputt gegangen ist. Was mir an der neuen Hose nach nur kurzer Tragezeit negativ auffällt, ist dass sich unschöne Knötchen auf dem Wollstoff gebildet haben. Das hatte ich bei der ersten Hose bis zum Schluss nicht. Der Stoff scheint auch dünner bzw. weniger dicht gewebt zu sein.
